I would like to say that my rig is 4+ years old (excluding the PSU/GPU/1GB of RAM)

Okay when I play SC2, it takes a considerable amount of time to even boot up. I play SC2 in window mode because whenever I play it in full and I try to minimize it lags like all hell. I will literally lag out of the game because it takes so long for it to minimize.

I can also not watch 1080p videos without lag. Only certain ones I have been able to, but that leads me to believe that it wasn't truly 1080p? Most of the 1080p videos that I download cannot be watched smoothly on my computer. Whenever I try to stream movies to my PS3 through PS3mediaserver it will lag ridiculously bad. I know it is not due to internet either.

Is all of this lag coming from the lack of speed from my CPU or what? I have no idea. Help will be appreciated!

Edit: Currently saving money for SB so I do not want any major upgrades.

No viruses whatsoever. I know that for a fact. I don't keep or download 1080p anymore due to the fact that it lags so bad. All of my videos go on externals. To answer your trollish comment... None of the videos are porn.

Everything looks good to me. Some upgrades you should think about doing is getting Windows 7, and a faster CPU above 3.0. Then your system should be good to go.

Can't I just OC my CPU to help with performance? I am not keen on upgrading to Windows 7 either. I love the simplicity of XP. :] I need a 64bit version though...

Well considering Windows 7 is faster than XP I don't why you wouldn't switch. You can OC, or just max out your rig by buying a q9550 and OC past 3.0. After that your mobo is maxed in terms of CPU power.

I've just been using XP for so long that I don't like all the new applications that 7 has. I don't like all the quick start icons on the bottom and stuff. I'm trying to see if I can enhance the performance without having to get rid of anything costly. Trying to keep it around $100? I need to start saving for a SB build.

You should probably say you want to save for a SB rig in your first post before we start recommending parts. You complain about your rig being slow, yet you don't want things that will improve it. Your CPU and OS are weak. Start saving up for SB, OC your CPU, and get Windows 7 for your SB rig. That's a good plan.

Why a SB build when Ivy bridge and Bulldozer are right around the corner?

Overclocking your CPU even modestly would surely help you out in SC2. Look into getting an aftermarket heatsink. If you ever want to get a 64-bit OS, 7 really is your only viable option. Not to mention DX10 and 11.

There is a thing between want and need. I know I want it, but then again I know I don't need all that performance. I'm a college student that is a casual gamer. I am not into hardcore gaming, benchmarking, and such. I want to run my games smoothly and I know that SB is capable of doing it and more.

Seems to me you're just not getting hardware acceleration. Your GPU should have no problem handling 1080p. What player are you using? Try playing your videos with MPC HomeCinema (make sure you're using the DXVA H.264 & VC-1 internal filters).
I use CCCP. What are DXVA and VC-1?

I was going to learn how to OC during the Christmas holidays, but I got so caught up in other things that I never got a chance. I might plan on just getting a hyper 212+ or something.

As for the OS... Why can't I just get a x64 version of windows?

A Hyper 212 would work well enough. It's certainly within your budget.

XP Pro x64 wasn't well supported driver-wise. Most people generally avoid it.
