Why is my Seagate 7200.10 SATA II showing as IDE?

I have two of the same hd's installed via SATA and I made sure there were no jumpers on them.

In the BIOS, I made sure that SATA controller was enabled.



Can anyone help me figure out whats going on?

Mine does the same thing, I don't think it really affects anything. It says the same thing in BIOS, it's just a name they put in for it I assume.

Have you installed your chipset/sata controller drivers?

It's likely your board defaults to SATA in IDE mode, rather than AHCI.. Mine also defaults to standard IDE mode, unless I select AHCI in the BIOS, and then install the SATA/RAID/AHCI driver during Vista setup.

Looks like you are using the basic M$ controller driver.

For ACHI in Vista try this:

Then enable ACHI for your SATA controller in BIOS and boot-in. Vista will then install the drivers and you'll have to restart.

I haven't really seen a performance difference, on my PC's but ACHI is supposed to be better for plug-in play eSATA etc.
