Hi, yesterday i oced my 3770k to 4.5ghz, stable at 1.336v on prime 95 blend for 12 hours and it ran like a charm without a single problem.

I am using an asus p8z77-v le plus

Then i left after finishing the test to come home to a 'reset desktop' (nothing open due to restart) which really surprised me. after that i opened cpuz and realtemp to check stuff out and even after everything was loaded my cpu wouldnt go down to 1600mhz (speed at idle) and it wouldnt go below 1v (again, idle) it just sat at about 1.3__ volts. then i tried occt and prime 95 and during the test my computer would begin to lag

I went through all the setting and couldnt find out why, i tried voltage at manual and offset, changed power management options and everything, i changed everything to stock... and guess what? NO CHANGE

all the temps idled about 7 degrees hotter annd the voltage was at 1.2__ idle

Anyone know why this was happening?

Have you got C1E, C3/C6 and Intel speedstep enabled in the BIOS?

It could be the windows high performance setting, I had a similar problem and it drove me nuts.

Windows high performance will try to keep the clock speed and thus voltage up, even if C states are trying to lower it. With all C states enabled and high performance mode they would fight each other and cause crashes. I set it to balanced and re-enabled C states and everything is good.

ok, i enabled the c's, they were on auto... not my temps and voltages are normal, but my frequency says its just sitting at the normal 3900mhz turbo boost speed on cpuz, also what is the general voltage for 4.5ghz? i know you cant give specific numbers but i can only achieve it at 1.336v and that seems very high, unless if i got a really bad chip...
