Why no dual core GPUS's???

Why is it that, instead of having a dual core on the high end graphics cards. They have 2 separate GPU's instead??

5970= Two 5870 cores underclocked. They are seperate GPUS that each have their own RAM. But on the same PCB.

A graphics card with a dual core processor would mean that each core could share RAM and it would be a single processing unit with 2 cores.

When do you think dual core cards with come out?

Cus more heat is good.

jk, They just haven't perfected the technique yet.
Intels bringing out the I9 with 6 cores and they're still on one core in GPU computing???
Intel has that 48 core as well I think...
Well for one, its easier for them just to take two existing GPUs and stick them on one board than design and build a new one, and that would make an absolutely monstrous die.

Gpus and Cpus run on a totally different architecture. Gpus are parallel processors and in a nutshell you could consider each shader processor on a gpu a separate core (the ati 4800 series for example has 800 shader processors). With parallel processing essentially the main processor on the gpu assigns simulatanious instructions to all the shaders. If you are wondering why they don't make them on the same die, well its probably not cost effective, and really provides no benefits.
