Most games these days support widescreen resolutions, so it is just a different aspect ratio, just like watching a widescreen movie, no stretching, just more vision area

Check the monitor specs on what type of scaling it does. If it has a "maintain aspect ratio" or something similar like that, it will automatically black-bar any non-WS resolutions. If it doesn't have that option, it'll just stretch.

id rather play with black bars than streched because if its streched it alters your interpretation of things slightly(cant think of the correct phrase) and on fps that could be a pain in the arse to get used to

Is not bad, nearly all my games support my widescreen res(1440x900) so i have no stretching , but on the games that dont, i just put it on the max resoultion and it doesnt look bad. It love widescreen

So let's conclude....get a WS ! It will enhance your gaming experience as "they" say...

If ATI has teh same setup as nvidia...you can get any monitor to put black bars at the side by getting it to do "video card scaling"...

But all the games I want have widescreen/widescreen hacks.

My LCD has the option to go into 4:3 mode or widescreen. Its just black bars, it doesnt stretch the picture.
