I'm just wondering, if my brand new Biostar TA790GX be able to hold AM3 board.

An am3 chip yea it can, but you cant use ddr3 just ddr2

Yes. You can only use ddr2 with it though.

You can't however, use an AM2/AM2+ CPU in skt AM3

AM3 processors has a bidirectional memory controller for DDR2 or DDR3 so it should work on AM2+ boards..my mate here has one on a J&W790GX-XTRM and it runs perfect..

not all chips have both. the 920 and 940 both dont

That's because 920/940 are both AM2+ cpus ,and not AM3
