Will Asus take my RMA?

326 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  DesertRat
OK So I bought a P5N-E on ZipZoomFly over 2 years ago.

Yes, the infamous board I bought and started the 800+ page thread on here about.

I had to bend the NB heatsink down a bit to get my cooler on.
Little did I know I should have just shaved some plastic off the fan

Anyway, firstly - I tried RMA through ZZF.
No go- they only RMA before 30 days is up.
They told me to go to Asus.
Asus' site says motherboard RMA's need to go through retailer.

So - remember this will be my first RMA EVER...

  • Will they take a board with a bent heatsink?
  • Where do I go to do this RMA?
  • Will they take a board over 2 years old (3 yr warranty right?)
Thanks for the help...

Just call them...I'm still hating them.
Doing it online is a waste of time.
You don't have to go to retailer.
Just call them. Theyshould still RMA as long as it is within their warranty. They will honor it like crazy even if they have to RMA the board over 10000000 times.....

Absolute Abhorrence Against Asus

I believe the best way to handle Asus' RMA is to call them over the phone. I had the same board as you a while back and that is what I did.

It is best to just give them a call and let them know that you have an issue, and they will ask you a series of questions regarding how to go about to fix it. I had a no post issue so I spoke to a tech and explained that I had reset the cmos multiple times etc and then they gave me an RMA number.

They will email you a form in which you fill out (Advance RMA has a different form as well).

I don know about your bent heatsink but I hope this answers your other two questions.
If you bent the heatsink in the first place, is it at all possible to bend it back?

I'd call Asus. I had to RMA a board with them over this past Christmas. I talked to a guy on the phone, he gave me an RMA number, I sent it off and a month later I had a brand new P5Q Deluxe!
-Dependes how badly it's bent. Pics?
If it's not too bad it'll probably be fine.

-Call or e-mail Asus, I'm surprised they don't have an RMA form on their site.

-They have at least a 3yr warranty. Right now I have a A8N5X out on RMA for hte 2nd time w/ them. So it might even be a 5yr. I'm pretty sure they'll take it as long as the heatsink isn't in too bad of shape and/or can be bent back.
For something like this, calling it may be the your best option though.
Guess I will have to call.
I can't bend the HS back, but a friend is giving me his old fried board and his has a stock NB HS I believe. I can just swap those.

If they're the same that'd probably work fine
