I'm thinking of upgrading to a 6790, which needs 2 6 pin plugs, unfortunately my PSU (550w version of this) has none, and only 3 molex at that. Would I be ok to use a few molex splitters, or would this overload something? If I need a new one, what would you suggest? My budget would be about £40. Thanks.

You should get a new one, HEC/Compucase have a tendency to overrate their products. A 550W with no PCIe connectors is probably a crap 300W.

Try this:http://www.scan.co.uk/products/380w-...fan-atx12v-v23

I was almost going to post a link to that same PSU.
It does only have one 6-pin cable, but I have one and like it.

Ok, had a quick look for some quality ones my self, how does this compare to the Antec? Also will 380w be enough to last into the future a little?

He actually is getting a 6790, not a 6970. AMD naming the card like that was a bit silly imo, since it's just a trap really.

The Builder series isn't as good as other Corsair lines, but it would work fine. And whether it is enough for the future depends on what components you will be upgrading to.

What really puzzles me is how in the world does a 6850 require only one PCIe connector, yet the significantly inferior 6790 requires two.

Edit: By the way, for an extra 5 quid, you could get http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-m...-dl-dvi-i-hdmi instead of a 6790. I know it's up for pre-order only, but you could always call Scan to find out about its availability. It would be a much smarter purchase than a 6790.

Yeah, from some of the reviews I've looked at, it only consumes about 125w at peak too, 2 is just overkill. Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.

On that 6850, the 6790 I was looking at is £110, and that really is as much as I can spend, thanks for the suggestion though.
