Will this ssd be ready to go?

I ordered this drive and will install a fresh copy of 7 x64 to it.

Do I need to check it's firmware for the latest version, or will it be ready to go?

I'm in the process of reading the stickies on ssds; thanks to all who have contributed to those.

The mobo is already set to AHCI. Is there anything else I need to look out for? Anything else I need to do during or just after the initial setup?

should be ready to go, windows 7 will align the partitions for you... just remove any other drives you have while installing windows 7 to your ssd, mine installed the boot media to my hdd and rest to ssd which was weird
