No... the 940 is not supposed to be ddr3 compatable. its 1066 ddr2. But thats not a bad thing. The latency is better.
No it won't , get the 720/710 or 820 if you want to use that mobo+ram, because 940 is a AM2+ chip only
Nope. You can't use an AM2+ proc on that AM3 board.
damn i though am2+ ment am2 and above confussing! i was thinking about waiting for the 945 but my only pc is dying out slowly!

Well anything out now would be a huge upgrade from that.

defo its naff on its way out! i wouldnt be suprised if it died by the end of the month!
am3 cpu can be used with am2+/am2 mobos with a bios update.

am3 mobo can only be used with an am3 cpu.

just get a 720be if you want to go am3. you might even unlock the 4th core with that mobo anyway.

cheers

Why not go for x64 Vista? The disk from Microsoft is $10. You will be forced to reformat if you stay with that HDD.

get a stick of 2gb first then buy another one soon. single channel is not that bad. just run it on ganged mode.

cool cheers for the heads up but the OCZ ram is on offer 20 quid off!
You should just get AM2+ , it will cost you less... Ram will run the same , cause ddr3 is faster , but has higher latency , while ddr2 is a bit slower, you get lower latency's .So go for phII940(or stick with 720 if you like), 2x2gb 800/1066 4cl/5cl , cause ddr3 is not mature yes, so the gain is not worth the extra you spend
cool cheers!

so will my 720BE work with a AM2 and DDR2?
