Definitely hurts the battery life on laptops. As a result, I'm going to say it definitely needs more resources, but as long as you aren't doing it when benching, should be a moot issue.
I guess so as it's constantly running a 'timer' with a set interval, which in it self will use some resources (not a lot though). It will probably 'peak' resource amount when the desktop is about to change.
It shouldn't be very noticeable though, resource-wise.
It'll probably use a little more recources but not much, and this will only be a when pictures are changing I would imagine. Doesn't seem to show much extra usage on my system though in task manager > performance.
