Windows 7 RAM problem?

1023 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Snipe07
Yeahh, I'm running 4GB of ram (800MHz Dual channel, 2x 2GB) on Windows 7 32-bit.

At factory settings, it said 4GB were installed, but only 3.5GB were usable.
On the boot splash screen's memory check it said 4096MB were okay. Fair enough.

I then applied the 4GB patch. Which solved the problem. I now have 2 operatings to choose from - Windows 7 Test version >128GB (default) and Windows 7.

Everything was going well, until I decided to overclock my RAM to 1066MHz.

Now, on the boot slpash screen it says 3522(or something)MB were OK, and when I boot into the patched OS, it says 4GB are installed, but only 3.5GB are usable, and when I boot into the unpatched version, it says 4GB are installed but only 2.7GB are useable.

This stays the same, even if I revert to 800MHz. I've tried re-applying the patch, but it would be nice to know how to fully remove it and start over.

What do I do?

Oh, and sometimes my wireless connecto goes inactive and my PC starts going slow as hell. This IS to do with the ram problem, because it only happens when I boot into the patched version.

Thanks,
Dan.

32bit os can only use MAX 4gb, this also factors in gpu. what patch are you talkn about?

in order to use all 4gb of ram you need a x64 version of windows. then you wont have any of these issues.
im assuming your video card has 512 MB of ram and a 32 bit operating system only has enough memory addresses to "use" 4 gb of ram total including the video card. therefore 3.5 gb usable is correct. if you want more, get a 64 bit OS
I've got a 1GB GRAM graphics card.
and as I said, it worked FINE before i overclocked, so your claims about x64 OSs is obviously innacurate.

inaccurate*

You just had two users tell you that it is because your using a x32 bit operating system. This patch? No. That is the whole difference between x32 and x64. the amount of ram it can use. Plain and simple. put ram back to stock, uninstall patch, profit. I'ma guess that this patch has hardcore memory leaks and other issues because it prob doesn't actually USE the full 4096mb of ram - merely virtualizes it, uses more page file, attempts to use an exploit, or merely tells you its there, but its really not. So post patch. and if you dont want help, dont ask for it XD

as for your wlan not working - im guessing the patch allocates a custom hardware id for the additional ram that could be conflicting with your wlan card. The fact that your computer has slowdowns when its "patched" to run all 4gb of ram is a sign.
