Well, I downloaded vista rc1 and tried to burn it as an image to a DVD with nero. Then it gives me the following error (attached).

What should (or can) I do?

EDIT forgot to attach it

Well I got that fixed, but I don't feel it really necessary to make a new thread, so I just renamed this one.

My new question is, where in the world do I get my windows vista key?

Check the MD5 sum of your ISO to make sure that it downloaded correctly. Also, make sure that you burn the DVD at the lowest speed you can to lower the possability of something burning wrong.

Here are the hashes from Microsoft (what you ISO should match):

Signatures of the ISO files:
32-Bit
MD5 hash: 22486e815a38feffd9667317dfeec55a
SHA1 hash: e00b4ebbc81fb420cf047973b95a9cfb7cdf51b7
64-Bit
MD5 hash: f3a385aae6e4dea9226e31d9f1148b56
SHA1 hash: 8e4de7a72c828a3543ff1663243eb0836da07eea

It's OK. That FAQ really confuses more than it explains.

Download this program, and run it to extract the sum generator.

Then, run MD5SUMMER.exe.

he file browser, select the folder that you downloaded the ISO to, then click Create Sums.

In thwe windows that opens up, select the ISO, then click Add. Now click OK.

Make sure the file is saving as a .MD5 in the next window, and click Save. It will take a while to generate.

You should new be back at the main window. Click Verify Sums, and select the .md5 File you just saved. Now, in the second (right-side) collumn, it will have a long, cryptic code that should match either one of the MD5's in the post above, depending on what version of Vista you downloaded.

Alrighty, hmmm that helped a little. I think I got it now, but from what I can tell (which isn't very much) the hashs don't match up...maybe I am doing something wrong, so I added a screenie.

Hmm... For some reason the program is generating the wrong hash, but I got the same incorrect hash as you, so the downloads are probably not corrupt.

I tried using another hash-checking program (DigestIT) and my MD5 matched the Microsot hash.

Most likley it was a bad burn.

Wait maybe that error that I just ignored in my first post had something to do with the vista install error??
