I was going to install Windows XP Professional on my computer but when I looked closely at my install disk I noticed many, many scratches in a circular pattern all over it. Under a microscope these scratches looked like pretty deep gouges, so I was pretty worried. I quickly extracted the ISO from the disk to my HDD and burnt the ISO to a new disk. The contents of the disk *appear* to be all right, and in VMware the install went without a hitch, but I am very worried about the integrity of the disk, and therefore the operating system, because bytes of files may be missing because of the damage done by the scratches, which could cause instability. Is there some kind of checksum or hash utility like the Ubuntu live CD has that would allow me to verify the contents of the disk to make sure that I dont have a now useless copy of windows?

Thanks

Is this an OEM or Retail disk?
You can legaly download a Retail XP SP3 .iso HERE.
If it is OEM, can't help you there.
