im doing a reintall of windows from what i previously had xp pro sp1 on. and i was wondering if anybody has an original xp pro sp2 disk that they could make a copy or an iso of and send or transfer to me. the problem is that i only have a sp1 disk and i want to put xp with sp2 on the computer, i also want to have it installed right fromt he start cause of all the problems upgrading can cause. i tried using nLite to integrate sp2 but when im installing everything goes fine up until i get an error that says somehtin like xpsp2.dll could not be copied, and im guessing this is a vital component of sp2. so if anybody has an original xp pro sp2 disk that they could make an iso out of and transfer to me that would be awesome. ive already got the registration key so im not doing anything illegal here

Just install it with the disk you have, download SP2 and then install it. There shouldn't really be a problem at all...

WINDOWS XP SP1 SUCKS, I have downloaded (sp2) at least 10 times with no problem, but when I intall it - the problems start and I have to take the upgrade sp2 out. I have XP-SP1a don't know if this is a problem for all SP1 versions or just the (SP1a).

Would you mind PM'n me if you or anyone else has a solution. Microsoft has FAQ, Technet, Newsgroups etc... I should read 10,000 pages till I find the answer. Oh, the lifecycle for microsoft on the SP1 expires Sept 2006 so we still have time as a viable product in there eyes. I like you would like to be more current with security issues especially. Sorry no help here. If I get mine upgraded I will Post for others that may still have XP SP1.

It's more of an "update" instead of an "upgrade". If you do a clean install with SP1 installing the update should be okay. I did it a couple of times and it been working fine.

Clean install, good deal? Ok, I am getting ready to do that on this machine before the folding team contest begin. So, we shall see... I will take it under advisement for sure. Thanks guys I think I will exit gracefully and wait to see if anyone else rings in? Someone should go to Microsoft and let them know. I had no luck with a solution to this problem, but that didn't surprise me much. I have less problems with my W2KPro sp4 than my WXPHome SP1a?

Actually, it would be illegal to make a copy and give it to someone else. That's why no one has done it yet.

if you just want an iso of xp pro w/ sp2 integrated, theres plenty of places to find one online, not that its the most legal route, but neither is asking someone else to give you a copy of theirs...

I do think youre overgeneralizing when talking about having "problems upgrading"... using your xp disc and right after install, installing sp2, shouldnt cause any problems... nothing that can be blamed on a fresh installation and update anyway... so Ill repeat what others have said, just install your xp disc and install sp2 right afterwards... its not as difficult or problematic as youre making it out to be

you should head over to www.neowin.net and ask around about nlite tho... I dont use it but Im sure someone there will be able to tell you how to fix your sp2 slipstreaming problem

Slipstream it by downloading the corprate version of SP2 (around 200MB) and slipstreaming it in with either Nlite or Command Prompt (thats if you have a working computer w/ a cd burner, i don't know)
