So, first i will start off by saying this is probably not the correct forum but in the past you guys have been of great help with numerous overclocking problems so i came back for another question even though its not overclocking related.

I reformaed a friends dell for him with the dell disks, its an older dell probably 7-8 years old an he just wanted to use it for surfing the internet. After we reformatted it everythig worked great very smooth and fast since there is nothing on it ect. ect. The icons on the desktop were very large and the resolution was at a fixed setting unable to be moved most likely because he didnt hav ea video driver after the fresh install, i assumed all would be fine once we got it connected to his DSL and it could dl a driver.

Now the problem comes in that it cannot get onto the internet, there appears to be no lan connection in the network connections, and every time we try to setup a new connection it fails to connect to the internet. The internet is all connected correctly, if we take the ethernet cable out of the desktop and plug into the laptop internet works fine. So is there some type of network drivers we can get somehere or what else could be the issue. Thanks for the help.

Have you tried running it in safe mode with networking?
NVM read your post more carefully
you need to use a cd that came with the computer or use a usb stick to download the drivers on your laptop and put them on the stick and plug it into the desktop go to the manufacturer website type in the model of the computer and download the drivers

if it's a fresh install you'll need to download the ethernet drivers from another computer and transfer it with a thumb drive.

When you reinstall from a Dell Disc, you have to put the Driver/Diagnostic CD in as well or else you wont have:
1. Video
2. LAN
3. Wireless
4. Sound
5. Modem

So if you put that disc in it will setup and you can isntall all the needed drivers from it. If you dont have them go to support.dell.com and enter the servicetag and it will give you the list of drivers needed for that specific computer.

Lol you installed the operating system but not the drivers.
You need to manually install the video, nic, sound, and chipset drivers.

Use the service tag on the back of the PC and go to Dell's drivers and downloads and enter that service tag. You might have to download the nic driver on another PC, slap in on a flash and install it that way... then when that is done and you can connect you are on the home stretch.
