Windows7 Quick question

243 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Bobi
Hello
I'm about to install beta version of Windows 7. (dualboot)
Now my questions is ; do I have to format a partition to get to install W7?
I know with XP that I have to do a format before installing it , but what's the policy on Windows 7? Can it go on half-full partition without formatting it or ?
I'm currently backing up files from my D partition (to format) where W7 is supposed to go , so if it's not necessary please tell me !
Thanks

i dont remember 100% but im pretty sure if u run the setup and get to the partitioning part it will tell u wat u need to do
before installing, you get to a point where you can format your HDD
It says nothing , only how much space on each partition.. And when I press next on D , it goes to install . So i'm assuming you don't need to format it , but i want to be sure
Crypt , i prefer not to format it , but do i HAVE to?
i dont think u have to. try without formatting it and see what happens, back up ur info first though just in case

No you don't have to format. Just make sure you are installing it on the proper partition. (which I'm sure you are)
