On the 29th my wife and I are moving into her parents house to save for a house of our own. My problem is that my pc will be too far away from the FIOS modem/router to run a wire. I do have a linksys wireless router, can I use that as a receiver without having it plugged into the modem physically? The only other way I can think of being able to have internet is by using my wife's netbook by using the ICS feature.

you can always use powerline ethernet by just buying an adapter kit is an option over wireless.. some adapters here just to give you an idea

So those powerline things, do they give a great signal? Because I pc I built for my mother in law had wifi built into the mb, and the signal only had to go through one wall and she only gets two bars.

lol that's horrendous signal strength. You could check the signal strength in the router's settings or maybe it's just a crap router

I think they just have horrendous insulation in the walls, its an old house. I'm not sure, all I know is I need a fix, and a low cost one since I'm unemployed atm, but hopefully not for long

well as for powerline, its improving to reach the best wireless throughputs for home WLAN and by the sounds of your situation and poor WLAN signal strength it would be the better option..
