I was looking at how expensive watercooling hardware is, and thinking about an old article from Engadget where they compared various high end audio cables to a bent coat hanger.

Anyone ever tried Freegan style watercooling? Tuna can for a waterbloc kind of stuff? The bong cooler is around of course which would be the appropriate radiator.

Jokes aside, sounds interesting.
That's a good question.

One possibility is no pump at all. You might be able to use gravity convection like a 1920s home radiator system. Bunch of problems with that though. The water moves fairly slowly, the pipe needs to be large, the system needs to be closed to air, so the bong cooler wouldn't work, and the various cooling components must be arranged vertically. You MUST have the radiator at the top, and the greatest heat producer at the bottom. Also the minimum rise of the pipe is one inch in 3 feet. This probably requires the mother board to be placed at some sort of odd angle to get everything lined up right.

There are a few DIYable pump designs. One that comes to mind is generally used for special materials like abrasive fluids and blood. A flexible pipe is squashed by an elliptical wheel. The pressure is not even though.

One other though comes to mind: this whole thing would be a lot easier if there was a reliable, cheap way to waterproof a motherboard. I wonder if, say silicone shoe waterproofing spray would work?

Set the whole computer up with heat sinks but no fans, The whole Thing including all cables. and use up the can of waterproofing spray on it, letting each coat dry. It just goes into the bottom of the bong cooler.
