my custom build wont boot from any of my drives, i recently added another drive and was in the process of copying files this morning but windows was not responding, ie all the programs like explorer and wmp ect. so i shut down and restarted the computer for it to come up saying i need to repair it,so that doesnt work so i try to restore to previous settings, that didnt work so i put the windows disk in again and went to reinstall win7, however it failed for some reason and i havent been able to use my computer. i then gave up and left it for an while and 20minutes ago i realised i could just put the hard drive in from my laptop. however this is just stayed at starting windows screen.
any ideas what could be wrong and how i should fix?

try using a different sata cable. it could be that it's just dying on you

i have done, the main drive was still plugged in, and i used the sata cable from the new drive to plug in the laptop drive

Unplug your hard drive and get into the BIOS and try setting the bios settings to default then plug in the hard drive and try again. Also make sure you don't have any USB things plugged in.. recently my computer had a heart attack because I had a USB Flash Drive plugged in and it kept on trying to boot from it.

did that with the laptop drive and it is now saying windows error recovery
launch startup repair or start windows normally?
(btw this happened to the main drive b4 i attempted to reinstall windows on it)

Choose repair. You may need your windows 7 cd to do the repair.

it did then restarted and now its just stuck on a black screen :/

ok it let me log on showed black screen for very long time, just showed my desktop after alot of waiting, will i now be able to reinstall windows on my main drive?

to reinstall windows all you need to do is put the CD in the optical drive and select the drive you wish to install it on. It should let you.

kind of, i managed to reinstall windows on the main drive, just did updates an restarted and its staying at starting windows, really taking ages to load
