Hi, I was attempting to install Ubuntu 9.10 to my flash drive. I selected my usb drive to install but didn't go into advanced to tell it to install the boot files to the usb and not the hard drive. Now when I try to boot off hard drive grub comes up giving me some type of error because it can find the linux OS (obviously because its on the usb) I can run the live cd and look through the hdd but I dont see anything regarding grub boot files. This isn't my pc PLEASE HELP! Thanks

Edit: All the MS boot files appear to be untouched and in the right spot.

You need to fix the MBR and you need the OS disc. Next time specify what windows you ubuntufied

crap thats what I thought. It's vista. Can I just copy the good boot files off another pc and replace them on the ubuntufied pc?
I am sorry but what you want is not possible. Only a recovery disc with fixmbr, bootcfg /rebuild or a full installation can rebuild the MBR.

In either case you gotta tell the dude. Ghost the machine or log in with the recovery console and admin account.
