Worried about the voltage regulators on this 4850.

I believe the grey boxes on the back are voltage regulators.. But they aren't covered at all and I'm a bit worried about temperatures. The card is overclocked to 730 core clock (625 stock/680 factory OC) and doesn't get very hot, but as far as I can tell it doesn't have sensors to tell me how hot the voltage regulators are getting.. Temps are about 38c idle, 68c gaming, 73c while folding.

Almost every other model I see of this card has heatsinks on these.

Should I be worried about them getting to hot? If so, is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks in advance.

The larger squares that are to the left of the fan header and partially covered by the core HS are your memory IC's. The smaller ones to the right, between the holes in the PCB are the vregs. You can get some stick on heatsinks for them if you are concerned.

I wouldn't worry about it, if ASUS decided that it doesn't need it I wouldn't sweat it. Besides it's still in warranty for a few years. If it runs fine during the warranty period then cool, after that if you still have the card, add the cooling.

If I understand you correctly, the smaller black boxes near the power plug are the voltage regulators? Are the grey boxes something else?

Okay. Suppose you're right. Plus it's been running fine since September, I'm just worried it'll burn out on me.

Yes, the larger gray parts are the chokes and the smaller black ones in groups of three are the VRMs. You can check their temps using Rivatuner. If you were worried about it they do make VRM coolers that can mount using the two holes near the VRMs.

The 4850 vrm don't have temp sensors.

You can't check the temps through Rivatuner.

Just heat the card up with a game or stress test and do the finger test. If you can touch it for 3 seconds without the heat burning your hand, then it's good to go.
