Trust me, those extra 2.3" can be quite noticeable depending on what you use your tablet for.

I sometimes put my GS3 down and pick up my $40 7" Tablet (eFun NextBook 7P running ICS). The screen is a joke compared to the GS3 and its slower, but sometimes a bigger screen is needed.

I'm thinking of sticking with a 4.5" to 5.5" phone and getting a 9" to 10" Tablet for other things.

But it comes down to preference, and the tasks you do.
