WTH is windows doing to my music folder structure

ok, for the life of me I cannot figure out why this is happening.

I want a single folder in my music with all my files in it, yet this crap is happening.

The Music (224) folder is what I want to use, yet it keeps popping all these new folders in there, and I have no clue how to get rid of them.

i have not used itunes in years, but wasn't there an option during install that asks if you want them to organize your folders for you?

you think this has something to do with iTunes?

This only happened once I tried putting all this music into WMP as well as itunes.

Before I tried that there was only one folder in here.

Ok, how do i get it back to just a single folder?
My bet would also be Itunes. I know with windows media player you can set in the options which folders you want in your music library, I'd take a look there and get rid of all that crap.

Never let iTunes organize anything..

Never go near Itunes, its in the sin bin with REAL, Quicktime, and AOL for PC Aids.
One possible solution I see is to stop using the Libraries feature. I don't know if this will fix it, but I think it's worth a shot.

Another possible solution (which I think is more likely to work) is this:
  1. Right-click on My Music (navigate to it the "old" way - not through the Libraries).
  2. Choose Properties.
  3. Choose the Customize tab.
  4. Where it says "Optimize this folder for:", choose "Documents".
  5. You may also need to click "Also apply this template to all subfolders".
If this doesn't fix it, then I don't know what else to try.
hey guy, isnt this just "right click, change view to details"?

Nope.

If you right click the music library folder and click properties you can take out those other folders. You can also optimize for documents instead of music or whatever else.

Just letting you guys know that I did figure this out. The property menu on the actual start menu folder allows you to select what folders they contain. Thanks for all the help.

In some ways I find windows 7 more complicated than vista.

Oh well.

That's the same Properties box you'd get by right-clicking on it in the Libraries area. I guess what I didn't really realize is that this folder can also be optimized for General Items, Documents, etc. So, I guess I would have suggested "General Items".

So, what exactly did you do that fixed it?
