There is a difference between Integrated and Dedicated Sound cards, however this relies on how "Good" your ears are, and the Audio Equipment you're using. I would say that yes, you'll hear the difference after you get yourself a new pair of headphones.

The HD 555 are excellent pair of headphones

Since you said you've never had a sound card before - and for you to jump right to something like the X-Fi XtremeGamer, yeah I'd say you'll probably be blown away by the difference - having been on onboard for years. Very good card for gaming. I owned one, then upgraded to the X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty. Some differences, but practically the same overall. Turn the Crystalizer on, set the output quality to 192KHz / 24-bit, and you'll be good to go. Alot depends on the quality of speakers you're using, too.
are HD555's comfy i go on 10-12 gaming binge sessions, do they heat up and get all stufyy?

your budget?
For $30, the Xtrememusic is a steal. Works great on windows 7 too. The HT Omega Striker is better for music but would cost you 3 times as much: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...mega%20striker

HD555's definitely. They're very airy, and are considered some of the most comfortable headphones on the market.

This trend is getting very disturbing.

Yeah, we get it, you hate the HD555's. Why don't you suggest some better headphones in his budget than just flaming people who are trying to help?

On topic: I have modded my X-Fi, same model as yours, and use a pair of HD555s.

They are VERY comfy, and I wear them for 6+ hour gaming sessions and they don't bother me a bit.

They sound very good too

I don't hate the HD555 otherwise I wouldn't own a HD595. The HD555 simply is not suitable for the type of music the OP listens to. If you're wondering why I didn't give a recommendation this time, why don't you find the ten other HD555 sheep posts that I have shot down in the past month with several closed headphone recommendations?

I don't want to fight here so I'm gonna try and be nicer.

But why should the OP go find your old posts? He's asking in his thread for what he needs, and we're supposed to help here. Just link you posts to show what you need and it'll be the end of it.

I'm not saying the HD555's are perfect, I'm saying I know them and I love them. Plus, it sounds like he wants something that is more comfortable, and since the HD5xxs are some of the most comfortable things ever...

There. I posted that three days ago.

I disagree with the HD5x5's being the most comfortable headphones ever because the HD555 clamps my head almost as tightly as the HD280 Pro. The HD595 is slightly better but mine have also conformed to the shape of my head over the past 6 months. You can get comfort with a lot of headphones. The information is readily available; you just need to read enough.

Just used Kiwi's guide for Winamp. It works, but I don't recommend using the ASIO plugin for Winamp as it was pretty buggy. Constant clicking in the background and such. However the Kernal plugin works a treat.

EDIT:

Thread hijack. Kernel mode is putting undue stress on my CPU. One core is 100% and occsionally my system pauses. Surely the Sound card is supposed to be doing the work?

EDIT 2:

Sounds great, though.

Foobar2k + ASIO or WASAPI is the way to go, sir.

That HT Omega sound card on the first page looks to be quite nice. I might invest in that for my future rig.

Even bought a Pro licence a few years ago to show my support.

I'm going to try that WASAPI plug in. Kernel streaming just crashed my system.#

EDIT:

scratch that, looks like that crash...did some good? It's fine now. No undue stress on mine CPU.

The HD555 do actually - even though you wouldn't believe it - have plenty of bass after being burned in for a while. I couldn't imagine having more bass than what they have.
