With a European release date of Nov. 15 and Nov. 19th for North America, I for one, am xtremely xcited about finally getting to play this game. Although I never played X 3 or X 2, as a long time EVE Online player, I'm really looking forward to finally playing such an immersive singleplayer space game.

Here is the latest pre-release review, which highlights many of the new aspects of X Rebirth...

Been looking into this game as a space sim trainer for Star Citizen. If another discount pops out before it releases probably will pick it up.

If you definitely end up getting it let us know how it is.

I've had my pre-order in with Steam for a few weeks now, so I'm eagerly awaiting release on the 19th.

Also, Star Citizen isn't going to be out until sometime in 2015 and you're going to need a 'joystick set up' for ship navigation, much like Chris Roberts other games like Wing Commander. The 'mouse and keyboard' navigation for X Rebirth much easier to use imo.

What makes mouse/kb better for this franchise?

Sorry, haven't played an X game since X2.

Must find a coupon so I can preorder. The more I read, the more I want to play.

Mouse/kb is just much easier for a broader base of gamers. Using a joystick set up like one the Saitek or Logitech's will always be better for games like Battlefield and Flight Sim but the better ones cost a lot. With a game like Star Citizen for instance, you will have to have a joystick set up or you will get destroyed, as that is the type of game it will be and as it's going to be multiplayer, everyone else will have it as well.

I paid full price @ Steam but still, from the videos I've been watching on YouTube and threads I've been reading at the Egosoft website about all the different aspects of the gameplay, this game is like nothing I've ever seen in a singleplayer game. It's the RPG genre taken to the next level. The scope of it and the broad list of things to do from resource gathering to station building, mining , market speculation for trade goods, awesome PvE warfare...all of it.
Although it is a 'space RPG' as opposed to a 'fantasy RPG', to me, it actually excels Skyrim in many ways and that's not something I would say casually.

Unfortunately that voucher didn't work for me. Am I too late?

Yeah, didn't work for my buddy last night either.

I'm sure GMG will have another voucher available soon.

Only got to play for a little bit but I'm liking it so far.

My friend at another forum who's playing now said this.....

"> UI doesn't scale up to 1920:1080 everything's very small
> Human First Person gameplay is very rudimentary, you move very quickly and feel a bit like a hovercraft
> There is no classic flight mode anymore
> The graphics are neat, but the close up textures inside the ship could use some polishing
> You now have boosters instead of SINZA. They drain the shields.
> you have to do everything with left clicking, guns are right clicking
> some voiceover is missing, your character on the otherhand has excellent voiceover
this leads to weird situations where you think you messed something up but it's just the game running a dialogue without sound
> the tutorial comes in subtitle texts and disappears very quickly, that has a high chance of leaving the player with absolutely no clue what to do if they missed a line
> some human animations are a little weird
> automatic tilting is very annoying, you can turn it off in the options menu
> the dialogues are partially EXTREMELY dumb
> The character models aren't necessarily beautiful

*this could be a result of his settings..not sure
It seems like they have little to no experience with organic 3D models and their animation
> There is once again a high learning curve to understand the whole game.
I'm still in the tutorial but the controls feel difficult
> Game and graphics run smooth, no crashing, everything's fine

I'm sure there will be a patch at some point by Egosoft.

Got a few hrs in so I should chime in.

Might sound like a repeat of the above poster.

UI isn't scaled up. I'm playing at 1440p and dialogue is almost unreadable.

The tutorial is done through ingame text and isn't scaled up so you really need to look for it.

The FPS sections are really simple. I'm reminded of really old RPGs, I'm looting boxes and talking to NPC's with limited dialogue. Basically you end up stealing loot and asking people to "Show me your skills!". Control feels really clunks in the FPS sections.

Character models looks eh but the ship and base designs look pretty to me.

I was about to complain about the auto tilting but I guess I can turn it off.

Mouse and keyboard controls feel clunky to me. Been playing with an Xbox controller and enjoying it more.

I spent the first hr having no idea what I'm doing. I was getting lost and losing to campaign dogfights that I guess I should have been winning.

Gameplay is smooth and the only crashes I have are related to swapping audio devices.

Even with all my gripes I'm enjoying the game and planning to buy a cheap joystick.

Oh anybody else notice at the first base the female engineer with the male head?

TL;DR Decent space sim so far. Really rough and simple FPS/Dialogue options. Some weird character animation. Game runs well.

Is there still a sandbox type mode, i.e the ability to avoid the campaign altogether and do your own thing? never played the X series for the campaigns always enjoyed just starting at nothing and building an empire.
