I have an x1200 and I can run oblivion pretty smoothely at medium settings @ 1280 x 800, no lighting effects. Source games run nicely, but at a low res. It's pretty decent.
Dont expect much from ur friends laptops gpu......but it should be able to run MOST games on low to medium settings if ur pushin it.

Most laptop variants are downclocked/and or slightly crippled compared to their desktop counterparts in order to lower temperatures and power consumption

i actually got a laptop with the ati x1270, plays RA3 decently, but CoD4 horribly even with the lowest settings, the 2600 series on laptops are much much better, dont expect too much.

games that run pretty smoothly

RA3
CoH opposing fronts
CSS source
dawn of war soul storm

and a bunch of others. lol if it supported SM3 id be bioshock and assassins creed
