Hey guys, I'm a bit of a dilemma here. I have a Gigabyte 990FXA UD7 motherboard and I will be getting a 7950CFX and a 1440p monitor soon.

The thing is, I have an Asus Xonar D1 soundcard, and if I want x16/x16 performance with the cards, I'll have to remove the sound card. On the other hand, I can leave it, but I'll be getting x8/x8.

What do you guys suggest I do? Would the performance gap be large between x8/x8 and 16/x16?

The difference between 8x and 16x is not really that noticeable mate. You'll be fine at 8x.

get a receiver that takes optical and get some real speakers.

Most cards won't max out a 8x slot. You might a see 2% performance loss going from x16 to x8 at most

Another question. Isn't it possible to run it at x16/x8? Instead of x8/x8? Just curious.

No sorry mate you can't run 16 and 8. It's either a single 16 or 2 x 8. I think there are some boards that can do 16x16

That board you have is supposed to be able to do 3 lanes at x16 unless I read it wrong
