Which is best for crossfire and why?

What if you had two monitors? Then would that change things?

Or would it just be best to save the money and buy one decent card and run two monitors off of it.

~$150 total for gfx card(s) (mobo does not support sli)

I would think the two x8/x8 is better than x16/x4.

Not sure how the bandwidth is allotted when used in Crossfire.

the x16+x4 or x8+x8 refer to the speeds (/modes) your first and second pci-e slots will run at when two graphic cards are present. To answer your question, 8x+8x is the best, as most cards will be bottlenecked by the slow x4 slot of the x16+x4 setup. Only highend/dual-gpu cards will be bottlenecked by the x8+x8, so budget and mid-range cards will be fine.

HOWEVER, you said your mobo doesn't support sli, which either means its an older amd mobo, or it only has ONE physical pci-e slot, in which case everything in my first paragraph becomes irrelevant.

Either way, i would highly recommend getting one decent gpu, such as an ATI 5770 ($165). Best performance per the dollar, dx11, and supports eyefinity, which means you can use both monitors during gaming.
I was looking at the Asus P7P55D mobo. But I will buy the Asus P7P55D Pro for $20 bucks more and get SLI and x8/x8 for the 20.

So I am not bottlenecked if I ever do buy dual gfx cards, that ATI one looks like a good deal thank you.
