x16/x8 with a 5870?

Will x16/x8 make a difference in gaming compared to x16/x16 with the 5870? I mostly use a single card, but if I ever upgrade in the future I wanted to ask this. Most every site says that x16/x8 does not make any noticeably gaming hit with cards, but I thought I would ask.

maybe but not a big enough issue to worry about though.

In short, you will be fine.

You may loss 2-5 fps max.

I'm kind of pissed EVGA locked the PCIe width on their X58 LE. It's probably the nicest board I've seen with a ton of potential, but they locked the lanes to ensure "maximum performance" with PhysX.

I've read that 5xxx is about the limit for x8, at like 99% performance. If all you have is x8, you can't really upgrade beyond that level.
