x1600XT Crossfire Configurations Questions

Hi All,

Just out of interest, can an x1600XT Crossfire be coupled with ANY ATI card (e.g. my GTO2) or are there only specific cards which will work with it.

Also, if the x1600XT Crossfire does only work with certain cards, what would happen if you flashed a non-compatible card (for arguments sake the GTO2) to a compatible card? (again, for arguments sake a x850XT PE) Does it recognise the other card only by bios or does it use some kind of hardware recognition?

Well I have just checked the official ATI FAQ, an x1600XT Crossfire can only be run with another x1600XT, an x800GTO2 can run crossfire with a x800 Crossfire Edition card. Incase anyone is interested.

Actually, I believe you can run the x1600xt with any of the new gen cards in crossfire, as long as one of them is a crossfire edition card...but it will run at the lower card's speed. (ex: x1800xt CF ed and x1600xt crossfired would run like 2 x x1600xt)
