Hey! I dont know if i'm allowed to ask this sort of question in this forum, but I am new here and looking for help. My friend is letting me borrow a Radeon X300 because my Nvidia fx5500 is rather old and crusty... anyways i uninstalled the nvidia drivers and put the x300 in. When i restarted it did the load up noises but was a total black screen. My Nvidia is a PCI as the Radeon is PCI-E so i went into boot up setting and set the it to PCI-E instead of PCI, but that didnt work.

anyways just wondering if anyone has info on how to correct this? i looked up on google other people with the same problems but they have lines and lines of script that there is always some error in the text, i have yet to see this scripting. So help me out! Thanks

Wait, so you can see the screen fine in the BIOS? At what point does it go black? When loading Windows?

How did you get into BIOS? With the new card or old card?

If with the new card, then I think there are still parts of the nVidia drivers left that mess things up for you.

In that case, put the old card back in... boot into Windos SAFE mode, make sure all drivers are removed, run Drivercleaner Pro a couple of times.

Then try again

Well I would say Reset CMOS. However i dont know the full extent of your issue.

To rest CMOS do the following:

1. Look to your motherboard and locate the small battery
2. Remove the Small Battery for 2 mins.
3. Put the batter back in.

So the FX5500 was still in the motherboard when you put the X300 in?

(Well, let us know how the X300 is running on games with some screenshots. I'm still trying to get rid of this one at Best Buy and it's selling for around $60 since it's not on file anymore.)
