I was actually excited about this at first... AM3 chips ended in 5's, AM2+ ended in 0's. I thought that they made a new AM2+ chip, and I was happy about possibly upgrading. Meh.

Well duh... But it's a higher factory clock so hopefully the silicon is getting better. Guru3d got 4.2 with just multi adjustment on air.

You can run AM3 chips in your board...

That's what nVidia does to you

With the higher clocked chip from the factory, you're guaranteed to get a better quality/more refined chip from the die the PHII's were cut. Leads to promising overclocking at lower voltages...come on, think ppl

It's not like buying a 970BE prevents you from buying bulldozer whenever it comes out

Not everyone needs six cores (actually, just about no one needs six cores). Obviously we will have to wait and see, but these 970s should overclock better than the hex cores.

Yeah sure, If you are ok with wasting money or its a viable upgrade.

Bulldozer cores are going to be much better the Phenom II cores.
Not all cores/chips are created equal.

- Only 100 mhz better than a 965? Nahhhh...

- A bit better temp/power consumption over the 965? Hmmmm.... Weeeeelllllll.... Nahhhhhh....

- A tad more expensive than the 965? Not worth the change IMHO.

I rather go 10xx just to justify myself in making a change at this time.

Of course it's not worth upgrading from a 965. I do however think it will be a fun chip to play with though. I won't be getting one since I don't have any disposable income, but it would be a fun toy for those who do.
