x850xtpe or 6800gs

x850XTPE Vs. 6800GS

Hey everyone,

I am looking for a mid range card that will last me a while until the 7900 series are out for a while and their price goes down, so I am planning to keep this card for 6-12 months. It is between the x850xtpe or 6800gs. Basically the differences is the x850 has more pipelines and faster clock speeds, but the 6800gs supports SD 3.0 and HDR and also offeres SLi and I saw several reputable benchmarks of 6800gs SLi and they beat a 7800GTX in games and benchmarks.

Which would you pick? I am leaning towards the x850xtpe to use temporalily.

The X850XT Pe is a better card so Id go for that unless you plan on using it for a really short amount of time. If you have the cash it will be nice and own the GS but you might just wanna save that extra money for 7900 cause your gonna need it

I'd go with the 6800gs. It's a LOT cheaper than the X850XTPE. And comparable performance. 6800gs's overclock like mad, too.

Newegg has the X850XTPE at $385 and the 6800gs at less than $200. Definately the 6800GS.
the normal 6800gs is nothing against the x850xtpe... dont care about old tech... just alot stronger!!! you can always get x850pro vivo and mod it...

Well i would actually get the x800gto2 and flash it to make it a x850xtpe so the prices would be almost exactally the same.

So price aside, what would people get.

Get the 6800GS.Its got SM.3.0 and it can usually overclock like mad as opposed to the x800gt02 which doesn't always unlock.
Why are you downgrading from a 7800GT? The 7800GT will smoke both of those...

Sorry, I haven't updated my specs. My 7800gt was rma'd a long time ago and i never got another and I am shopping for something that is cheaper now.

And sctheluna the gto2 do always unlock, and the newer more expensive ones are actually being shipped from newegg with 16 pipes already unlocked.

HA, the x850XTPE blows the 6800GS away, but the x850xtpe is more money, and a better card by far, i mean the x850xt PE beats out a 7800GS.,...
The X850XTPE crushes everything in the 6 series line... it's also $400. It is in no way a mid-range card...
Yes well the X850XTPE will most surely outperform the 6800GS but as mentioned the cost difference is quite a bit.

Why not consider the SAPPHIRE X800GTO2 alot cheaper and with the 16 pipelines going give you the performance of the X850XTPE for far less $$$$.

cheers
