ATI Catalyst 9.3 Driver: Performance Express-Test

As usual, the new Catalyst release corrects a number of bugs and issues. This time, they are mostly connected with video playback in Windows Vista:

* Video combing effects no longer visible during movie playback while fast forwarding or rewinding
* Avivo Video Color Settings are now retained after resume from Sleep/Hibernate
* Overlay Theater Mode is now enabled with component video or composite video in extended modes
* Catalyst Control Center: Avivo Video Advanced Color page is no longer grayed out and preview is now functional
* OpenGL games now play properly with "Show Crossfire logo…" option enabled
* Rotation now works if Aero mode is turned off

Source
Nothing impressive in terms of gaming, but it is nice to see a driver that is made to be more compatible with Windows 7 and some issues resolved. Just a thought but I think that ATI's driver team could be more productive with drivers if they were allowed to work at their own pace and release when they are ready instead of having a monthly deadline. With the exception of course that they released a driver or even a patch for new games that are out.

not that I know.
If you want good GTA IV performance you need a good cpu and overclock it to hell

my results:

far cry 2:

catalyst 9.2:

0xAA:

* Average Framerate: 33.24
* Max. Framerate: 41.42
* Min. Framerate: 29.43

2xAA:

# Average Framerate: 28.86
# Max. Framerate: 36.40
# Min. Framerate: 23.95

4xAA:

* Average Framerate: 26.00
* Max. Framerate: 35.12
* Min. Framerate: 20.86

catalyst 9.3:

0xAA:

* Average Framerate: 33.23
* Max. Framerate: 41.38
* Min. Framerate: 29.58

2xAA:

* Average Framerate: 28.65
* Max. Framerate: 36.30
* Min. Framerate: 24.57

4xAA:

* Average Framerate: 25.99
* Max. Framerate: 35.14
* Min. Framerate: 20.56

maxxed settings, vsync enabled.

crysis:

3x runs at 9.00am, all settings at very high, shaders at medium. 2gb texture update pack added, which basically doubles the size of all static textures.

no AA, 16xAF, vsync enabled.

9.2- DX9 1920x1080 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: Custom ~~ Overall Average FPS: 35.115

9.3- DX9 1920x1080 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: Custom ~~ Overall Average FPS: 35.09

shame this, it's the first driver update i've installed (started at 8.10) that's had a fall in average fps. having said that, the minimums are slightly increased so, smoothness is improved

to VF!

minimums are increased and max's are decreased, so they're the same average, but smoother.

OMG this 1 rep is killing me XD

cpu! one of the games that REALLY takes a load on the cpu, but gpu and ram also have a big part too. IV loves quads, I had a E8600 @ 4.55ghz before, and when I use my Q9650 @ 4.26ghz I get a huuuuge performance jump compared to my old E8600!
