Ive heard a lot of reviews on the Elite they say that after 4 months it breaks down. And the system is just like the original 360...still got that noisy fan, overheats,I would get the prenium cost less.
In the new revisions they fixed the noise issue, they just simply replaced the "hairdryer" DVD drive. As for overheating i've also been reading that they have put better fans into the 360 as of late which also fixes this issue.

the elite isnt a new system, its just black with a bigger hard drive and hdmi.

They still didnt fix the issue's concerning heating, motherboard flexing and noise.
What is HDMI? Is it just an interface through which you can connect to HD TVs?

Essentially is one wire that can carry a high def video signal and audio signal. Component out can do the same thing, just with a few more wires. No biggy either way.

The elite is tested alot more before they are shipped out and have a alot less chance of being faulty.

The DVD drive is also a different model, the first model on the white 360s died alot, this one doesnt.

Conclusion, if you are getting a 360 get a elite, or get nothing.

HDMI is a connection on some top of the line HDTVs. Most people don't have this connection but if you do its amazing

I was considering an Elite due to the HDMI interface (since my TV supports it), but the component connection seems to be fine on my friends 360. Am I really missing out on any higher picture quality by using the component connection??

No you aren't missing out on anything. HDMI and Component offer the same things except HDMI can carry audio. It's all up to the user. Both have excellent quality but it also depends on the TV.

Not all Elites come with the new DVD drive. They are being phased in but not every Elite has a Benq so you still have a chance of getting the older drives. But with time that will change.

There is nothing wrong with buying a Premium over an Elite. I for one don't like the black and tests so far show that they are virtually identical in terms of heat, power output and noise.

This can certainly change as time goes on but if it does, the Premium and Core editions will likely receive the same changes as well.

I noticed a difference between HDMI and Component on my 46" XBR2 Bravia... I couldnt even set the dashboard to 1080p on component, and I can on HDMI.

they *kinda* did; one site took a 360 elite apart, and they epoxied the 4 corners of the cpu to the board

In effect, that's supposed to keep the cpu in contact with all of the contacts on the BGA

That's just because your TV doesn't support 1080p over component. Some TVs do and some TVs don't.

Every set will be different because there are many variables in individual setups. Some people have a better experience using HDMI and other people have a better experience with component.

I'd liek to vote pro, I bought an elite on the launch date and its been a fun little console but since i'm not going to be downloading tons of movies, or putting music on my xbox i found i didn't really need to buy the elite, i would have been just as happy and 80 bucks richer with the pro. i also found i'm not a big fan of FPS games on a console because i love the mouse/ keyboard to much. And now that the PS3 dropped 100 dollars i would definitely be considering one of those, because you get a lot more with one.
