I have a japanese xbox where I bought from jap last yr when I went to visit. Because it is an arcade version, so there is no harddrive(apparently...lol) so I wonder if the hard drive I buy it here (from US) would work on this Japanese console? or do I have to get the harddrive from japan too.....? (same thing with the controller)

I concur. A SATA hard drive is a SATA hard drive. Shouldn't matter where you live. Especially USA--Japan, as both are in the "NTSC" region.
