NOTE: Before commencing to read this post, if you have chosen to beleive that surround sound headphones are a gimmick and are non-existent, could you please politely leave this thread.

Well, since the days of my old and destroyed Turtle beach X1 Headphones, i now beleive its time to buy another pair!
I Do beleive that surround sound in headphones is indeed possible, due to the fact if it wasnt true and company's were selling the product that doesnt do what it says on the box, that to the extent of my knowledge is illegal.

I'd like a Surround sound headset, my budget is extendable, but i would say no more than £150, mainly will be used for X360 Gaming but id like the comfort of being able to use them with my PC aswell. Preferably digital (Optical cable) as i beleive this enhances quality even more.

So far ive set my eyes on buying, Turtle beach X41's, i have read numerous amounts of reviews and all seem to be positive except a few complaints about draining battery's very fast, although this is not actually a terrible problem that i cant cope with. Also if anyone has these headphones could you please tell me if you find them good or not.

Thanks.

While, I agree that surround sound is a gimmick in most premade headsets, You will get some sort of "Surround Sound" experience with them, but its not the best, and the quality of sound of the actual headset isn't that great.

I personally really want Surround Sound headphones, so I've decided (after stupid amounts of research -.-') to get an Astro mixamp, a ATH A700, and a zalman clip on mic. The reason i'm getting different parts of the Astro setup, is because I heard that the mixamp was extremely good, but the actual headset was not so great.
personally i havent seen headphones with optical input......so surround is out for the 360 anyhow

i just got my Shure SRH-440s for a multipurpose setup.....i use them for Xbox, compouter (music, video, games) nad for music via my phone nad for sound engineering at church.
i paid $AUD 135 for them and i LOVE THEM
Ive heard the same that the Astro A40's are indeed hyped up due to being used at MLG events.
I understand exactly what your saying about a "Slight" experience of surround sound, which using certain headphones i do feel as though i can hear distinct differences of sounds behind me and in front. Ive tried to not beleive it as much as i can but then.. You spin round and Ninja someone and you become puzzled and cant help but think this "Gimmick" is not so bad lol. As for my X1's i know in Audiophile terms they are absolutely terrible, i think the sound i got for gaming and music was very good, so i await my upgraded sound quality soon lol.
Yeah there is no doubt about it that surround sound headphones will let you hear certain things at certain angles when stereo wont let you do that. I know when I had my Logitech G35's for a while, I could stand looking at an object that was making noise, and spin around, and literally the sound would follow whatever direction I was turning. It was quite cool, but alas, Logitech is going downhill, 30 pages of a legitimate bug, and Logitech ignoring most of it turned me off to their product... Whoops i'm rambling, sorry lol... As I know of right now though, Logitech fixed the bug.

my headphones being designed for sa studio situation havent got the best soundstage - but are still very good - i can tell if a sound is behind or infront of me etc

The G35 Is indeed 7.1 i beleive.

As for optical input, http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/efx4/home.aspx

Look at the bottom of the "Unique Gaming Features", i didnt think it was possible at first but then i found out Astro's and Trittons have it aswell.

Any reccomendations yet?
