I guess taking it back is not an option?
yes lol buying a whole new system will solve the problem lol if u google it it will tell u exactly what fails to cause the red ring of death
no i am taking this back tomorrow , and getting my money back lol. I just bought it last night and it died on me within what, 5 mins.
well if you have RROD on the first day, take it back to the place/guy you bought it from.....

otherwise, look into RROD fixes which should give you a working xbox for anywhere between a month and 6 months and it only costs about $6 for the parts to do it. There's a million threads on this so i'm not going to re-state how to do it.

or if you're lucky, It hasnt been opened and is less than 3 years old, then MS will take it

EDIT: bit it looks like the guy did a poor RROD fix on it and just booted up to check if it was working, then put it up for sale.

I've fixed a few xboxes and tested them for a few hours before deeming them "fixed" .............only to have the same people come back to me 3-4 months later saying they broke again.
Thats kind of like saying "I totaled my car, will buying a new car fix this?"

Wont that get him banned on X-BOX live?

RRoD is covered for three years by Microsoft.

Where di you get it from?

ALWAYS test electronics first when buying used.

I bought my 360 used at two months later I got a E74 error which is basically the same thing as a RRoD and Microsoft covered it.

nope , FW mods will get you banned but this is just simply applying a stress to the hardware to re-connect some loose connections, hardly something MS can detect

Did you buy it of an independent person? or from a shop used..?

Im always wary about buying from people sadly nobody is honest these days i say try get your money back very unlikely even if you fix it its going to be a reliable system best just to buy one straight out and be done with it obviously if he does'nt give your money back then a fix is worth the try but again not reliable i would have taken it back seconds after if i saw that

If they won't take it back bake it in the oven follow this link. It worked perfect for me if followed exactly.
um folks, i bought it from 139, so thats from gamestop dudes. I am taking it back tomorrow and just buy it next week brand new.
Silly MS should be ashamed of theirself. The rest of my game consoles are from the pawn shops and they have been working for years, and i buy a used xbox and it dies on me in 5 mins lol
Well i've had mine for almost 2 years at it has'nt failed once from my understanding the older non-hdmi had the most problems obviously its still an issue but if you treat it right from the off-set i find it should give you no problems

How does one treat right an X-BOX? 99 % of people set them up use them according to the manual.

People lay them down on carpets (poor airflow) put them in full enclosures (poor airflow) put them against walls (poor airflow) put them near the heat output of their TV (poor airflow).

etc.

thats wat im wondering, how can u treat it wrong? if u use it as a coffee table

only way i can think of treating it wrong would be to kep it on 24/7, not giving it any ventilation, constantly moving it around and dropping it regularily

anyways.. bad luck op, i bought a used 360 of my gf's bro and glad i had like 3-4 hours test on it before i even paid for it xD... and shouldnt gamestop test there systems ? looks like gamestop are gonna keep trying to shift this console until someone decides to attempt and rrod fix on it voiding there chances of returning it

Well alot of people i know love to cram them in these tiny little tv units so basically its circulating nothing in the rear except dust they leave the power adapter stuck behind it you need to let the thing breathe

im not saying thats just the problem its not really helping a device prone to heat failure it maybe just my luck

The few I fixed using this, as long as I did the first repair on it and no one did it wrong the first time are actually still working to this day. Working fine for over a year now
