Yup the opty thing was a fad. Sure some overclocked like monsters, but others didnt. Just like thier A64 counterparts. I had 2 opty 148's supposedly the best steppings (cabye and cabne) and my KAB2E 3700+ did the same overclock.

Even if it doesnt over clock well. Its still going to be a really fast chip with the added advantage of being unique because no one else has tryed it yet.

So it looks like this project is on hold for at least another week untill I get more work...

But I have a quick question for now. Ram people...

I want ram that OCs well and doesnt cost a fortune. At first I was shooting for ddr2 1066, then I decided ddr2 800 would be ok. The thing is that ddr2 800 isnt much cheaper. Is ddr2 667 an option?

any help is appreciated.

Why would this be a budget Conroe chip when it is pretty much the exact same thing as the E6300 Conroe?? AND the E6300 is cheaper.

The one that you posted at the begining of the thread is only 2MB shared L2 cache.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819117102

The Sckt 771 has the 4MB L2 Cache.
