Right so ive posted on the mobo sub forums for the problem but nothings really come to light! ive even gone creative tech support (even thou it was a waste of time, i know, i was desperate ok?)

so ive got a maximus II formula, and it coems with some xfi supreme ROG card, pretty much bog standard audio, ****ty gimmick!!!

I had the Extreme gamer soundcard before i upgraded and id never had any problems worked a treat and gave great sound ingames! Im a very big gamer!!!!

Im hoping all the audiophiles here can try and solve my problem if not give me direction on a new card!

so heres the problem! My drivers (suprise,suprise) wont install on my pc, ive disabled the hd audio option, and also enabled it when trying to install the card! Ive installed on fresh clean hdd, so cant be any other conflicting soundcard drivers or registrys! ive also tried in;

xp 32 bit
vista 32 bit
vista 64 bit
windows 7 64 bit

none have worked, but each time it had recognised that the multi media audio controller is in the pci slot! it just wont install the drivers! i have tried latest drivers and off the cd! i have tried using differant configurations with conjunction with the onboard sound but nothing to no avail!

I know this card is still working as ive tried it in 4 other pcs, friends and family! its a great card when working :///////////////////// so pissed off with it! but isnt that what you pay for with creative!! lol!

so if it cant be fixed, what card should i go for, or shoud i just stick to othe onboard sound! Money isnt too much of a problem but i dont want to spend shed loadz on like an asus card for 150 quid!

Im from the uk.

thanks for any help!

sepH

p.s. i have tried differant pci slots,

The Forte? Not at all. Custom drivers, new features, higher quality components. All-round better card without losing the all-important EAX for games. Gives a considerable fps boost as well according to reviews.

Okay thanks, What about the prelude, or pointles for what i want to do?

shame everywhere in the uk is out of stock apparently! sigh

i lie found somewer
Prelude is Auzen's first attempt at using X-Fi chips. Its still a superior card to the Creative versions in terms of both build quality and drivers however it doesn't offer much more than what the X-Fi Platinum SHOULD have been. The Forte will give you a better fps gain, slightly better audio quality and frequency isolation, some nifty new features and is physically superior due to its smaller size (less airflow restriction) and pci-e bus (double bandwidth). I'd go with the forte if I had the choice but if it is unavailable or you dont have a pci-e that isnt used, the prelude will work.

First of all, NEVER BUY Fatal1ty branded crap!!! Thanks you!

Now tell me a bit more about your sound cards. Is the original one PCI or PCI x1? Is the Creative card PCI or PCI x1?
Glad I could help. I know what its like to have an X-fi half-working after using it fully. My Extreme Music, as with all creative cards, has been reduced to little more than a Live! 24 with crystalizer thanks to it's vista drivers and that's after wrestling with it for a few months to keep it from BSODing my system. Was looking to replace it with something that would actually, you know, work on my upcoming build but I couldn't bare to lose my precious EAX. Did some research and found the forte (I had already known about the prelude but it had a highly flawed release and I had dismissed it because of that... its all fixed up now though btw). Real glad I did, can't wait to get my quality audio restored.

Ok, looks like you have PCI-e x1, just like my striker. Did you disable audio in bios? before blugging in your creative card? this ****ty x-fi that came with the mobo is considered onboard audio ( if it has that option) also try looking up information about "KB888111" on microsoft.com, this knowledge base gets in the way sometimes when you use aftermarket sound cards.

I feel your pain. I bought the x-fi xtrememusic off ebay the other day for $40 dollars. After looking at it, its has 64mb of ram on it and I actually got windows to detect it once. Everest has it as a x-fi fatal1y xtreme gamer. sad thing is I cant get it working either. Just keep getting multi media audio controller ni device manager but no drivers are picking up for it. Some times it comes up as a vga device in device manager too. Im running vista 64bit. I not buying a different OS just to run this card but I really want it to work. I did get drivers to take once but I got no sound out of it except for an extremely high pitch noise when I messed with the jacks. Then it disappeared again. Im thinking its a bad card. I tried it in 2 different rigs and neither will let drivers install on it. Any suggestions?

Failure to properly remove previous audio drivers (onboard)?
I tried it all, the lady on ebay is gonna let me exchange it for another. Hopefully its another fatal1y xtreme gamer.
well I formated the computer to try it again and still no luck. code 10 error. driving me insane. tried again in my multimedia pc too and drivers wont detect it at all. Im not sure if its a vista 64bit issue or if its a bad card.
