XFX 4890 under-performing, But only in my computer

My XFX 4890 gets a GPU score of just over 8000 points in Vantage, but when I tried it my uncles system it works fine and gets a GPU score just over 10000 points which is what it should be getting.

He has a stock clocked i7 with a Rampage 2 Extreme


Now as far as I can see the only real difference is CPU power but I wouldn't imagine a 4Ghz Wolfdale core power chip would bottleneck a 4890. Granted it only has 4mb of cache but at 4Ghz it should blast a 4890

It's the CPU score which is increased, not the graphics.

The Wolfdale isn't a bottleneck, the Core i7 is just a better CPU.

You'll probably notice that CPU marks have increased dramatically and the GPU results have incresed slightly.

I know how Vantage works


4890's are susposed to have a GPU score of ~10,000 points, mine has a score of 8000.

make sure its not staying in 2d clocks when running it.

I read (here) that some of the XFX 4890s are bad in terms of underperforming. On that topic, I also read that XFX won't RMA them for some reason, but you'll have to check up on that as I have no experience with it.

I think you'll find that your CPU may be bottlenecking slightly, then.

It's using 3D clocks as I have MSI after burner showing them in the OSD so it's not that


It was running on PCIEX rail 3 so now I've put each of the 2x 6 pin power connectors on 2 separate rails ( Rails 2 and 3 )

I'll see it's power related, though I dout it, worth a shot
