I've been digging around trying to find myself a 5870 for a while and newegg.ca finally pulled one out this afternoon so I decided to jump on it even though its fairly high priced.
My question is mostly whats the difference in the xfx 5870 XXX edition to a normal 5870?? Is it just a factory OC?
I really didn't want to go searching around for reviews or answers in case it went out of stock and figured I can resell it if necessary later.

yeah, just the extra price with a minor performance bump which anyone can do. I would suggest not getting an xfx 5870 xxx, get a regular one for less and oc yourself.
They are OC'ed from the factory. The card itself is pretty much the same, it's just been shown to be able to OC to a certain point at a certain temperature. So overall, factory OC'ed cards will OC better than normal cards.
Its the one I have and as the others have said it a factory oced card no differences in cooling or PCB layout, in fact I flashed mine to the asus unlocked BIOS and got regular stock clocks untll I oced again 1000/1200 stable so far
So what I'm getting is that likely it wasn't a great purchase because I could take a basic 5870 and OC it myself to those factory OC levels.
However it's not a terrible buy as the factory OC cards tend to OC better (cooler/stable) than a basic card.
And I realize I may lose a few bucks if I choose to resell the card, however if it works out for what I want (especially if I can swing a second and 3 more monitors) then I will likely keep it anyways.
If you actually HAVE ONE coming, who gives a sheet about a few bucks. They may or may not be higher binned, but definitely won't do any worse than the stock card.
While I agree that factory OCd cards are a gimmick, I wouldn't intentionally seek one out, but with the current shortage I would have grabbed one of that was all there was. What's the difference anyway? Like $20? Who wants to wait weeks and months over chump change?
Keep it and be happy, most people can't get anything...

I own two of those in CFX. Many people seem to forget that not all chips are equal. You might get a card that overclocks better, you might get one that overclocks worse. It is 50 50.
Actually can someone answer a quick question regarding the card for me?
I run 2407s which if I'm not mistaken don't have the Display port on them (im at work so I cant check)
The 5870s require a DP port for the 3rd monitor without having to buy that $100.00 adapter. Do the DP ports on the 2408 wfp's work with the ports on the card? or do I still need to purchase an adapter?

yes the 2408 will work as a 3rd monitor without the adaptor, as far as I can tell if it has DP it will work no questons asked
