Xonar Essence STX conflict

Hey guys,

Looking for some advice or help here if any of you are familiar with the Asus Xonar Essence STX card. I got it in friday and installed it. Everything seemed to work perfectly fine until I tried to run World of Warcraft that evening then my computer went haywire.

I had already downloaded the latest driver 5.12.8.1762 from the Asus website since this card was know to have a bug with WoW, but the problem still exists on my machine. I can run WoW for about 30 seconds until it fatal errors on me. Other than that the card is awesome. It seems to drive my Beyerdynamic DT 880's decently. I will try hooking up my AKG K701's later after I figure out this conflict.

BTW, anyone looking to pick this card up, I got mine from NCIX, the canadian site (the US site was sold out) for $173.07 plus 2 day shipping of 17.08 (not bad from Canada to Memphis) for a total of $190.15 shipped. I was going to get it from Newegg but they had been out of stock for about 2 weeks and it would have cost me $199 plus shipping there.

As a rule, I never buy any Asus products unless it is a motherboard. Creative would have better choice. Just for future reference. Asus make good motherboards. Thats and AsRock. And thats all they do well. The rest is buggy or just plain don't work.
They have new driver released to fix this issue already...
Check it out on their download site.

Also for your information, they released the patch in just one week after people talked about this bug in Head-fi...
Enigma, I agree Asus makes good motherboards, but I've never had a problem with any of their products, or service for that matter. The 4870 I have from them is awesome and this sound card is a beast, just a little conflict with WoW that should be easily fixable. p.s. If you can find me a creative card that is anywhere near this one let me know. The only thing that came close in my search was the 0404 usb deal that creative has.

Audionewbieyao, I downloaded the patch as I noted in my OP, the driver is dated 1/23/09 on the website and is labled as 5.12.8.1762. It was thanks to head-fi that I bought this card so I am familiar with the patch. That is why I jumped on it cause I thought the fix was in. Maybe I just need to uninstall everything, wipe the drivers and try everything again fresh.

I would beg to differ. As far as pure sound quality goes, a lot of the ASUS boards are actually superior to their Creative counterpart. Also their sound drivers tend to be less bloated than Creative, which seems to add more junk every iteration.

I would also recommend their EEE PC, some of their monitors, and optical drives, in addition to many of their motherboards.

Your just plain stupid pal....

ASUS Audio sounds better than creative.

Its crap programming in a crap game thats causing your issue. Music sounds twice as good as my old Prelude on the STX.
