Hi to all,
I have a P4 3.2 Northy and with the stock Intel fan it ran about 39degC idle and 64degC when running PCMark05. I went to a ThermalTake Spark 7+ with no better results but a lot more noise at 6,000rpms. I've been really disappointed with the Zalmon 7000Cu. Even at max fan rpm it cools to 35degC idle and 60degC running PCMark05. My room temps are between 22degC and 24degC. And in all cases Artic Silver 5 was applied to the heatsink and cpu as described by Artic Silver's web site. I even re-mounted the coolers several times in the attempt to lower the temps.
In the past with my P4 2.53 Northy I found that the Intel cooler was actually better than the TT Spark 7+ by 3-5degC overall. Also back when I ran an XP2000+ with the stock cooler, TT VolcanoII, TT Volcano 7 (aka Volcano 9) and then the best one I found was the SLK-800. The SLK 800 allowed the cpu to run at 10 or 11degC over room temps and that's the area where I want to run now.
Anyone with experience with the Thermalright XP-90 (Alum)?? I know most will suggest the XP-120 or Big Typhoon, but these heatsinks are too large for my case, not the motherboard. The V-1200 Lian Li case has a partition just below the motherboard/heatsink area where the psu resides. The Zalmon 7000Cu almost doesn't fit, so anything larger will not work.
Just reply back with your experiences on the XP-90 (Alum) and your temps with room temps included.
Thanks for your time,
