Xp disc

Do I needthe exact xp disc that came with my package or can I just a so did and the serial code off box?

I know vista does it like this

Retail Copy: You need the exact disc

OEM Copy: You need a valid serial along with any OEM disc.

hmm, I had always thought the key worked with the OS as long as they were both the same. (as in any retail key will work with any retail disk)

I'm almost certain retail keys are bound to the accompanying disc.

Well, I learned today
I know that there was a difference in OEM keys (as in the keys weren't real keys, sorta) but I never knew that the disk and key were married like that with retail XP.

Yeah I had no idea it was like that either. Then again the only retail versions of Windows I've ever owned were like Windows 95 and I can't remember that long ago
