Hi,

I need to restore the password on an Windows XP Workstation. What is the most efficient/fastest way to get it back? We have identical workstations but unfortunately one of our admins has changed the administrator password and he does not remember it. We tried ghosting it via ghostcast but it's giving us a lot of hassles at the moment.

I have physical access to the computer, it does not support floppies, but it can support CDs.

Any information/experiences would be appreciated.

Get a linux LIVE disk and use it's password recovery module. It'll take it right from the SAM file on your XP.

Go and use OPHcrack for xp. Just get the latest one, boot it up and it doesn't everything automatically. You do not have to anything other than wait for it find everything (which takes maybe 30 minutes max) and it doesn't even change the passy. It tells you it, you right it down, log in, then change it.

Follow this guide, and reset the password to be "null".

Ophcrack might work, but if the password is good it could take quite a while.
