Greetings,
biggrin.gif

Here is my predicament;
- Looking for new mechanical keyboard. Will be my first one.
- I am mainly an fps gamer.

Here is what i am looking for in a keyboard:
- Cherry MX Brown for silent 'sound' because i can't be allowed to be too noisy.
- Backlighting is optional but in case it's available, blue for color so that it blends well with the other gears.

- Glossy finish or not glossy finish?
- Personally, i'd prefer a non-glossy finish, aka matte. I don't want to be spending all my time wiping fingerprints etc.

This is what i was initially thinking about;
- Razer BlackWidow Ultimate but it's clicky and glossy. Then came the stealth edition, Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth Edition! With brown switches and matte. However, Razer Quality is yet to be praised. .-.
I don't want to be buying this and end up sending it back for whatever issues. T_T

- Das Keyboard Model S Professional Silent/Ultimate silent
AWESOME. Simply badass but, has a glossy finish so it ends up in sucking all the dust and fingerprints. -.-

- Deck - The legend
Pretty much 'rare' to buy. If everything else is lost, i might be going for that.

Unless anyone has encountered some sort of problem with it? x_x

Well, that's it.
If you guys could recommend any keyboard that i may haven't have heard about, please post it in here and i'll do my research on it. Thank you so much.

Yep. Clears are fine for me too!

However the thing is that they are pretty hard for me to get considering from where i am. Again, if all fails ... Déck it shall be! >:3
They look awesome anyways.

I just responded to a member via e-mail about things related to this thread. I'll share what I told him here in case it helps you all, too.

He had two basic questions about the Deck Legend: Blacks or clears? What about the flat rows?

----------

Really it depends on your use which switch is right for you. Typing on the blacks was very difficult at first because I'm a touch-typer, and not knowing when the switch was actuating caused me to bottom out on every keystroke. Long travel combined with the relatively high actuation force of the Cherry black switches, this led to quite a bit of fatigue until I got used to the keyboard. On my Deck Ice with clear switches, typing was much simpler at first because it feels more like a traditional keyboard. This keyboard is for Mom's computer, and she has a condition that makes it very difficult for her to feel her left hand. She greatly prefers typing on the clear board because it gives a much better indication of when the key has acutated.

After having them all for nearly a year now, I've gotten used to typing on the black board but when I go to the clear one, it feels not quite right. And don't even get me started on the $7 Dell keyboards they give us at work. Once you get used to typing on the black switches, everything else will start to feel a bit mushy. The only exception is a clicky Cherry board that I tried a while ago. It felt amazing to type on right away, but it was incredibly noisy and I know it's a concern for you.

Bottom line - for typing, the clear switches were better at first, but now that I've gotten used to the blacks I don't want to go back.

Now if you have other uses then there are more advantages to the black switches. I primarily play action perspective games, such as Gears of War, the Fallout Series, and the Portal series. At first the lack of a clear actuation point had me mashing keys a bit more than I normally did, but again once I got used to the keystrokes I learned to be a bit more precise with my left hand commands. I can still game on other boards, but switching between different switches is decidedly confusing and I much prefer my Legend Fire.

As for the flat rows, I don't find it to be much a detriment for any use because the keycaps themselves are sculpted. This helps with finger placement, though I do admit that the large space between the keys took some getting used to. As with the other aspects of the keyboard, there was a cost of entry but now that I'm used to it I actually prefer it and I don't notice anymore.

tl;dr - Get the blacks.

Blacks are awesome for fps gaming but as a matter of fact, i type alot usually and i guess i want the tactile feedback which browns give me. :3
Thanks for your suggestion.

Super mega awesome paragraph.

Thank you very much for your feedback, this is definitely something that i'll keep in mind but i'll be going with browns itself.
Considering that i am taking a custom made keyboard, i have the choice between blues, browns and blacks.
Blues are too noisy, so instantly rejected.
Browns give a tactile feedback, are quiet and feel awesome to type on.
Blacks do not give tactile feedback and are even more quiet.

If my situation was to be 100% fps gamer, i'd definitely go with the blacks.
However, recently, my friends started trying out several other games like RTS and once in a blue moon i play an MMORPG. And to top it all off, i type ALOT when i get the inspiration etc. So, for that, i'm taking browns. Otherwise it would have been sweet blacks all the way.

Thanks again. :3

UPDATE FOR THREAD: I'll be going with the custom made keyboard. Modded mine to look freaking badass. Hopefully enough i'll be using it by the end of the month. yay. Thank you everyone who helped and i hope that this thread lives on to help other people who are looking for mechanical keyboards for purchase.

4 inches? That's about 10 cm.
Or is that 4 feet?

Now that i check that on the website, 'Heavy Duty 4' braided USB cord'

Besides that, it's pretty much flawless. xD
W/o backlighting but i guess anyone who has a fetish for BL can let that go on seeing how customisable this keyboard is!
