I think I've been swayed, my computer sits with nothing to do A LOT. I think tonight I'll pull the xfire bridge off, install GPU2 ( I think I only need 1 installed, or do I need two seperate installs? ), if I'm feeling frisky I might even drop an SMP down as well.
I'm ATi so it won't be increadible, but I bet I can contribute something like ~6k ppd.
Welcome to the fold.
I fold with my 3870's with one client on each. read the multi-gpu folding how to, found in the folding essencials thread(if you haven't already
).
I get about 4.2k PPD on my 2 3870s, so you're guess is about right.
You shouldn't have to manuelly remove the crossfire bridge, just go into Catalist Control Center and disable Crossfire.
^yeah, it's a pretty solid fact that Nvidia GPU's usually push more PPD, but we fold on with what we have. I game when I'm not folding, so I needed something that I could work with and afford, as well as fold and game well too, whick all pointed to ATI IMO, so that's what I got. It cost me very little, and puts out a respectable amount of PPD (and plays Crysis on max settings
Hmm, I was hoping to get a virtual client running on my work laptop as well since I leave it on in my office all day and night. I left for a meeting a few hours ago after setting it up and it still says "Attempting to get work packet".
I assume my works network is not letting it through? So I went in about 5 minutes ago and just clicked use Proxy in the options hoping that would be some easy fix but it still hasn't started anything. Alwell, I guess this part of it is a lost cause, I was just hoping to pad myself with another couple hundred a day.

if you turn off crossfire, does it display only one card in the drop down menu? I just wonder...
And what's an easy way to not use a second display? I am an hour away from home (where I have all my stuff) and I only have 1 display... is there an easy way to do this?

use a dummy plug. It will make the card think there is a display plugged in. This should also make the card show up in the drop down menu in Catalist.

Only people with dedicated folding rigs need to worry about better/worse performance with nvidia/ATI. Fold with what you have! Folding is for everyone.
I thought I had it all set up to rock for the night, get up in the morning and I can't get my computer monitor to wake up. Computer was just unresponsive so I had to reset, looks like I had cut out at ~6400/10000 for both clients, and I'm assuming it was only the first WU. I restarted them when I left for work, so here's hoping they make it through the day I guess.
