Hi all, i joined only a few days/weeks ago after finding the legend that is the P5N-e Sli mobo thread stickie. I just wanted to crank my E6600 up a few notches using all the stock cooling etc.

I am chuffed with all the help and advice given out by the members so far. The reviews/tests and ideas people have are great. The problem is now i want to upgrade my stock HSF looking at a Xiggy or a TRUE (which will mean i "have" to change my case, probably an ANTEC 300 or 900)

So i innocently wanted to boost my machine from 2.4 to 2.9 and now i'm gonna thrash my credit card and upgrade my rig.

All i can say is thanks!

nicely done, I support the Xiggy, for the fairness of your credit card, but you'll want the bolt through kit, and a good fan for it

You can have a badass gaming PC that can play anything out now for less than 250 bucks. Just look at my sig rig.

You don't have to thrash your CC to make things work.

get a xiggy with a bolt thru kit, and a cooler master centurion from microcenter, with a few of their 4 dollar case fans, and you will have all the room and cooling you will need for all about a 100 bucks.

Don't spend money you don't have, times are tough..

For the cheap but good route, Xiggy with bolt kit, and a nice fan.
For the more $$$ but very good, TRUE, with a good fan

It happens to all of us. I originally started out with a plan to replace an obsolete GPU a month ago, and ended up building almost a whole new rig. The only things I recycled were the mobo, RAM (which had already been replaced a couple of months ago), sound card, and a few case fans

I would also suggest a Xiggy. They aren't quite as good as modded TRUE's, but they cost alot less and offer insane performance for the price.

I see alot of good stuff said about the "bang for buck" argument for the Xig. I am waiting to see a very interesting test carried out by ljason8eg.

looks like he could end the debate i've seen on these boards. Only bad point is i'm in the UK and we don't get those great $$ prices any more. Boo
Xig+Bolt+Fan (Probably Dark Knight) is £50 delivered (about $70
)

Vendetta 2 is always an option too

http://www.aqua-pcs.co.uk/ocz-vendet...ler-1722-p.asp - £29.99

Although you would need a bolt through kit too since the push pins have a tendency to bend motherboards

I used the thermalright bolt thru which you can get for £5 http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=607153

Yep, I'm subbed to that thread, eagerly awaiting the results. It won't affect my purchases as I already have the Xiggy, but it will be interesting and informative anyway.

just wait until you start convincing yourself that certain parts of your rig need an upgrade. you'll be looking for any reason

my hard drive, not filled, works great, and i have no real reason to upgrade it. but i ordered a new one anyway and it should be here any minute now.

at least its an addiction you can see/use.
Ha! you are getting off easy with a case and HSF. When I joined in june, I had just one old athlon rig. I now have THREE systems, my sig rig being the weakest by far.
You don't NEED to spend a lot of money to get what you want, Here at OCN we have a "for sale" section that always has too many good deals. I saw a Copper TRUE for sale in there. Buy used and always ask here before ordering anything online, We can often find a cheaper or better bang for your buck. I saw a Copper TRUE for sale in there. I think its US only on shipping though but you might ask.

:ROTFL:
Just done that too! A shiny new 500GB HD is waiting for me to put some video on it.

But i'll only have time for that once i've got my case and fan sorted ... right??!

I have tried to recycle my old machine by installing FREENAS on a CF Card and getting an IDE/CF converter. Works well but i haven't sussed out all the finer points of the linux based system yet. Torrent is a major headache for me at the moment.

You're right i thought some of those deals were great too. Did suffer from the US only a bit. Also, wasn't sure if sellers weren't keen on noobs coming in and trying to buy stuff. Thought i'd wait a bit before buying thru the site.

I think buying is ok...its selling that is not allowed. I am pretty sure someone will sell you something here. I could explain but I am sick and don't feel like getting into it...but I think anyone can buy stuff, just have to have 35 reps to sell or post a "wanted". Plus you should be able to rack up 35 reps in no time if you spend a couple hours a day on here helping.
